What In The World Is This Stuff???

Have you ever seen this before? Is it the strangest thing ever?!?! It looks like it should be in some Star Wars movie or something. (Or do I just not get out enough???)

I saw this over at the local fruit and veggie stand. It’s awesome! (The stand, that it.) I wasn’t sure what it was so I asked. It’s broccoflower. What? Broccoflower. A cross between broccoli and cauliflower. Serious! And it’s awesome! (The broccoflower, that is.) It really tastes like broccoli AND cauliflower together.

So I had to steam it. We love steamed broccoli (dipped in ranch! Pure heaven!)

My son was all over it. He thought it looked totally cool and gobbled it up. My daughter wanted nothing to do with it. “But I want normal broccoli, Mom” was all she kept saying.

I had some people over and served some raw (with ranch, of course.) It looks pretty darn cool, doesn’t it?

Who knew? What will they think of next? (Or should I even ask.)

  3. have you tried purple carrots yet? it seems (and I have learned this only recently) that the dutch(that would be me) made orange carrots to celebrate something dutch and it kind of stuck… they have re-introduced purple carrots… go search for them, they’re hilarious!

  15. That is SO cool!! I want to try it… but I don’t like broccoli and hubs isn’t supposed to eat broccoli because of the high vitamin k content. :-/

  16. it’s funny to read this as I had a similar reaction the first time I saw it in the local veggy shops here.

indeed, it is Roman broccoli and actually tastes like cauliflower. it’s looks to me like a highly engineered veggy… which would be very un-Italian…. I am still to learn more about it.
