Homemade Milky Way Candy Bars

I love it when I have the foresight to buy delicious ingredients at the grocery store to have in my pantry. So on days like this when I search for something yummy (and chocolatey) to eat and don’t find anything, I can make these – Homemade Milky Way candy bars!

I first saw these over on Erin’s blog Dinners, Dishes and Desserts. I quickly pinned it over on Pinterest to make sometime soon. (If you haven’t checked out Pinterest, you are missing out!)

They were easy to make and they were awesome! My poor thighs are not thanking me but my kids (and all the neighbor kids) said a huge thank you!

Ingredients:
* 1 bag milk chocolate chips
* 3 Tbls. evaporated milk
* 1 (7 oz.) container Marshmallow Crème
* 1 (14 oz.) bag of caramels, unwrapped
* 3 Tbls. evaporated milk
* milk chocolate for dipping (about a pound)

Place the chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl.. Microwave for about 45 seconds. Stir. Continue to microwave in short bursts (about 30 seconds) until chocolate is melted and smooth. Stir in the marshmallow cream and 3 Tbls. milk.

Pour into a lined and greased 8 x 8 pan. Place in the fridge to harden while you make the caramel layer.

Put the caramels and the rest of the milk into a microwave safe bowl. (Have a helper unwrap the caramels for you but watch carefully – they might eat them all!)

Microwave for about 45 seconds. Stir. Continue to microwave in short bursts (about 30 seconds) until melted and smooth. pour over chocolate mixture. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Once firm, remove from pan and cut into squares. Melt the milk chocolate over a double boiler (or in the microwave) and start dipping.

Enjoy!

I had a little girl who liked to clean up any caramel that oozed out =o)

  41. I want to make these, but I have no idea how much marshmallow to use. I saw someone asked the question 3 years ago… but no answer…

    • Sorry about that Terry. I just added it to the recipe. It’s a 7 ounce jar, one of the smaller jars of Marshmallow Crème.

  42. What type of dipping chocolate do you use squares, chips, bark?

    • Tammy, I typically use Guittard Chocolate that I buy at the candy/cake decorating store. It melts so smooth! But when I’m out, I will use chocolate chips. But make sure they are a good quality chocolate. Don’t go for cheap when you’re dipping. =o)
