Who hates it when you make something and it turns out nothing like the picture on the internet? My hand is raised. When we attempted to make Marshmallow Fondant? Total fail. Well, here’s another one for you. Total fail.
We saw this on Pinterest (because isn’t that where we find everything these days?!) It took me to this site but the link to where it originated didn’t work. So maybe, because I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, we did something that we shouldn’t have – like used a too thick Solo cup.
What you’ll need:
Sharpie Markers
Clear Solo cups
Directions:
Color your cups with the Sharpie Markers.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Put cups on a cookie sheet lined with foil and bake for 3-5 minutes until melted.
Immediately press down to flatten.
Well, at least that’s what the directions said. We followed them. The girls colored the cups.
We put them on a cookie sheet (lined with parchment because I didn’t have any foil).
And then we baked them in the oven.
But this is what they turned out like.
I tried to push them down to flatten but the plastic wasn’t going to budge. So I turned up the oven to 400 degrees and baked them again.
Nope. Didn’t work.

The girls thought they were still cool to use as cups. I’m so glad the kids don’t get as disappointed as me when crafts don’t turn out. Thank goodness for kids!
I have had my share of Pinterest fails too and it is disappointing or frustrating. I do know one thing, IF that was from an older post originally there may have been changes made in the way the cups were manufactured and the way they are now. This was what I learned in trying to make little hats with styrofoam cups. I DID make them years ago and had great luck. Turned out really cute. BUT now the cups are not made of the same type of styrofoam and they no longer melt down like they used to. Now it is a fail, but one time, way back, it really did work. This is possibly where your problem came in. Maybe not. Some just plain are fails no matter what.
Just wondering…did you have your cups with the rims down, and not like the picture of the cup rightside up? Wonder if that has something to do with it? Be that as it may, I had flops way before there was such a thing as “internet” let alone “pinterest” lol but that’s also where my catch phrase from back in the 1970’s came from “Oops…is the jump off point for creativity.”
We tried both ways and neither turned out. I’m thinking cups are just thicker now so they don’t melt as well. We’re on the lookout for cheap plastic cups now =o)

Yep-tried the same craft and was an epic failure. I think I was bummed as my kids were! 🙁
we gave it a go with cheap cups and it worked well they melted very quickly didn’t all go in circles (dont know how to add photos or I would show you).

It almost looks like your cups are the wrong size. I used the smaller solo cups and it worked perfectly!

Girl Scouts did yesterday worked pretty good – I also bought CHEAP dollar tree cups
