DIY Mint Sugar Scrub

DIY Mint Sugar Scrub

Years ago someone told me the perfect “cure” for dry skin is to rub baby oil on your skin after a shower, before you dry off.  Genius idea, actually, and I’ve been doing it ever since.  Then, one day I discovered sugar scrub.  It’s a loofah and moisturizer in one and man, oh, man, it’s wonderful!  But have you ever purchased a sugar scrub?  Typically they are pretty expensive.  So what to do?  Make your own, of course.

There are lots of sugar scrubs on Pinterest.  For our fist try at it, we decided to make Mint Sugar Scrub.  I love the smell of peppermint in the morning.  It’s invigorating.  And with Valentine’s Day coming up, pink is perfect.

It’s so easy to make and my daughter loved this.  As soon as we were done, she grabbed a jar and headed to the shower.  Thirty minutes later she came out of the bathroom and demanded “feel my arms.  Feel ’em, Mom.  They are so soft!”  It was adorable.

And wouldn’t this make a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day?  We made some tags for Valentine’s Day.  To print them out, click here and then print them on card stock.  There are two different versions, one with a border and one without.

  • 1½ - 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon peppermint extract
  • 1 drop pink food coloring

Instructions

  1. Place coconut oil in a bowl and microwave on high 15-25 seconds until softened.
  2. Start by adding 1½ cups sugar to the oil, along with the peppermint extract and pink food coloring. Mix until ingredients are well combined and food coloring is evenly distributed. If mixture is too wet, add another ½ cup sugar until scrub is to desired consistency.
