Oreo Ice Cream Pie

I love it when my kids help me decide what dessert to make!  We sit down and talk about it and we all try to come up with something delicious (and new) and something that everyone will like.  Believe it or not, this isn’t an easy task in my house.  We are all picky dessert eaters.

A couple of weeks ago we went to Dairy Queen and bought one of their ice cream cakes.  It was delicious, but so expensive.  FOR ICE CREAM!  So my kids and I decided to try our hands at making our own ice cream cake… or pie, rather.  My kids said our version was better.  Yeah.  I love my kids!  And here’s the best part… my son said “you totally have to blog this Mom.  It’s awesome!”  Do you have to be a blogger to totally appreciate that statement?

this was easy to make and tasted so delicious!  We just improvised on the ingredients.  You can use whatever flavors you would like, but we are big Oreo Cookie fans here.

Oreo Ice Cream Pie
  • 1 1/2 packages Oreo Cookies
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
  • Hot Fudge sauce
  • Cool Whip
In a food processor, grind up about 1/2 to 3/4 of a bag of Oreos.  (This depends on how thick you want your crust.)  I didn’t measure because I wasn’t using a recipe.  But if I can figure it out, anyone can =o)

Mix the Oreo crumbs with the melted butter.  Little helpers are great with this step.

Press the crumb/butter mixture into the bottom and along the sides of a large pie dish.

Let your ice cream sit out on the counter for awhile so it gets soft.  You don’t want it to melt, just get soft.  Spread an even layer of ice cream on top of the crust.  Place in the freezer to harden.

In a ziplock bag, add some Oreos and crush with a rolling pin.  Again, little helpers like this step =o)  Don’t pulverize them, just break them into smaller pieces.  (She’s concentrating – check out her tongue!)

Cover the ice cream layer with a layer of hot fudge sauce.  Sprinkle with crushed Oreos.

Add another layer of softened ice cream and place back into the freezer.

Top with a layer of whipping cream and decorate with more Oreos.  We used the mini Oreos to decorate.

Place back into the freezer and let harden until you are ready to eat it.

It was delicious!!!

Enjoy!
