When I was in graduate school a professor told me that the olfactory system was the strongest or most sensitive sense we have. There are those out there that believe that if you are trying to recall memories (whether from childhood or later memories), if you close your eyes and try to remember smells, memories will come flooding back to you. I don’t know if it’s a proven fact or not but I tend to agree. Think about your childhood or going to your Grandmother’s house. What do you remember? I remember the smells: the smell of bread baking or my Grandmother’s perfume, the smell of the Christmas tree or the cinnamon pine cones. Am I right?
And isn’t this the best time of year for different, comforting scents? This is my absolute favorite time of year. I love everything from the lights and decorations to the food and spirit of the season. One thing I look forward to every year are the smells of Christmas. I’m not alone here, am I? Everyone has certain smells they associate with the different seasons. Christmas is a huge one for me.
My kids and I are huge bakers, so the smell of cookies, breads, cinnamon and vanilla are comforting to me. When we can find candles that smell like baked goods, we’re all in heaven. But I’m really picky about my candles. I don’t want a waxy, too sweet smell. I want to take a deep breath and have my brain think we have something delicious in the oven. Glade® gives me this!
